Job Summary

Composites Universal Group is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior CNC Programmer / Operator that would be responsible for solid model preparation, tooling design, CNC programming and operating activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC machines to produce precision components. The Senior CNC Programmer / Operator will work closely with engineers and production teams to ensure the highest quality and efficiency in our machining operations.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with interpreting and evaluating customer data for purposes of manufacturability.
  2. Assist with engineering and fabrication requirements to best known practices too:
    • Basic knowledge of material compatibilities and manufacturing methods.
    • Assist with design of tooling, holding fixtures, and part handling structures.
    • Assist with drafting Shop and QC drawings for fabrication and inspection purposes.
    • Create and validate through CNC programs for the machining of tooling and components.
  3. Monitor operation and preventive maintenance care of CNC machines.
  4. Conduct process reviews and suggest/implement improvements as identified.
  5. Basic operation of 5-Axis CNC routers.
  6. Proficiency with G&M Code
  7. High Performance in set-ups required.
  8. Able to interpret diagrams and blueprints
  9. Strong analytical and mathematical skills
  10. Strong attention to details
  11. Team player and self-motivated
  12. MasterCam and solid works skills are beneficial.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Monitoring of project flow through completion of machining cycle.
  2. Operate CNC as required to validate programming.
  3. Work with shop personnel engaged in project processes.
  4. Assist with employee training where necessary.
  5. Assist supervision in evaluating CNC machine performance and productivity.
  6. Assist with project scheduling as it has to do with the CNC machine(s).
  7. Work inside the company Quality Management Systems with regard to ensure continual improvement systems.
  8. Assist Quality Control in their efforts to monitor and maintain product quality.
  9. Ensure engineering documentation requirements are met as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. 5+ years of hands-on experience in precision machining, including CNC programming, setup, and operation.
  2. CNC machine programming proficiency using the most current versions of the following:
    1. Master Cam, Solid Works, 5-axis experience is required.
  3. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a production and/or R & D environment.
  4. Basic modeling knowledge, including drawing creation; preferably “SolidWorks”.
  5. Ability to analyze and interpret numerical and graphical data.
  6. Prior experience or ability to acquire knowledge of general composites fabrication technology and manufacturing processes.
  7. Basic understanding and adaptability to learn manufacturing principles.
  8. Proactive mindset to undertaking continuous improvement initiatives.
  9. Possess the necessary integrity to maintain customer and project information confidentiality.
  10. Experience with customer project liaison is desirable.
  11. Ability to troubleshoot fabrication challenges independently and suggest creative, efficient solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Associate Technical Degree with emphasis on Programming and Machine Tool Operation and Practices, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience necessary to fulfill job requirements.
  2. Ability to work with complex components and assemblies.
  3. Minimum 2 years of work-related programming experience.

Physical Demands / Environment:

Extended working hours may be required to meet scheduling demands.

Must be able to occasionally lift 50 pounds and be adaptable to a manufacturing environment.

Continuous sitting and repetitive hand motion when carrying out operational responsibilities.

Occasional bending, squatting, reaching-at or above shoulder level to retrieve supplies or stage tooling and components for machining.

Limited exposure to low level hazardous materials and conditions.

Protective safety gear is provided as needed and must be worn in accordance with company safety workplace rules.

Exposure to various materials and dusts; MDF, EPS, polystyrene, fiberglass, PPE provided.
