JOB TITLE: CNC MACHINIST          


REPORTS TO: SHOP FOREMAN - METALS            DIRECT REPORTS: N/A


POSITION SUMMARY

Safely integrate knowledge, experience, collaborative approach and positive work ethic as a CNC Machinist in both our metal and plastics division. Understand and conform to relevant areas of the quality manual, quality procedures and training. 

Combining technical skills with attention to detail, making quality personal and going the extra mile to produce high-precision parts is a consistent part of what you do.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS 


MACHINIST 1

    A minimum of 1 years’ experience as a Machinist (Required)

    Graduate from a Machinist Technical Education or Apprenticeship Program (or equivalent work experience – 4+ years) (Preferred)

    Manual Machining experience (Preferred)

    Contract Manufacturing experience (Preferred)

    Aerospace OEM experience (Preferred)

    High School Diploma or Equivalent


 MACHINIST 2

    Must meet education and experience requirements of Machinist 1

    3+ years of CNC Machinist experience (Required)

    Manual Machining experience (Required)

    Basic CNC Programming experience (Preferred)


 MACHINIST LEAD

    Must meet education and experience requirements of Machinist 1 and 2

    Manual Machining experience (Required)

    Intermediate CNC Programming experience (Preferred)

    Experience in a contract manufacturing organization (Required)

    Prior experience in a lead role, guiding and training team members in a machine shop (Preferred)

    CNC Machining: minimum 5 years (Required)

    5-Axis Machining: minimum 2 years (Required)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 


MACHINIST 1

    Job Traveler Orders:

     o    Read to understand work orders 

     o    Inspect materials, equipment, tools, and machines prior to beginning work; if nonconformance present, work to resolve in timeliest possible  

            fashion 

     o    Advise supervisor when inventory or maintenance is impacted

    Properly select and use manual mills, lathes, drills, and other equipment according to on-site training

    Safely set-up (installing tools, fixtures, and materials) and operate 3, 4, & 5 axis vertical and horizontal CNC Mills

    Independently selects and loads appropriate programs from network

    Understand and edit G code and M code in programs

    Execute precision machining according to customer specifications and work order instructions

    Produce and inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards; adjust as needed to maintain accuracy and precision

    Read blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and interpret GD&T

    Use micrometers, calipers, bore gages, height gage

    Able to use basic math, geometry and trigonometry

    Maintains specifications by taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming; replacing worn 

     tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes

    Maintain awareness about cutting tool malfunctions, burr development, chip evacuation and coolant flow problems Report areas of concern to the 

     Shop Foreman

    Keep an accurate count of good and rejected product

    Leave detailed tie-ins for shift operators to effectively continue production

    Operate an overhead crane and drive a forklift

    Accurately report daily time allocation in shop ERP system

    Communicate with coworkers – ask questions, share information, be clear on expectations, listen, and assume positive intent


MACHINIST 2

    Successfully performed all duties and possesses all skills of the Machinist 1 position 

    Journeyman-level experience in CNC machine setup and operation. Must have the ability to independently and efficiently set up and operate any 

     CNC machine in the facility without assistance

    Journeyman-level experience reading, understanding, and editing CNC code

    Journeyman-level experience reading and understanding customer engineering and GD&T

    Expertise in using a variety precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, depth micrometers, pin-gauges, air gauges, height gauges and 

     comparators to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece by using sequence of operations and set-up requirements from 

     drawings, work orders and verbal instructions


MACHINIST LEAD

A Machinist Lead is a skilled machinist who oversees the operation of machines, tools, and equipment in the Machining Department. They also train and mentor other machinists, troubleshoot problems, and ensure quality and safety standards.

    Successfully performed all duties and possesses all skills of the Machinists 1 and 2 positions 

    This team member should be the SME in the shop and can lead by example

    Perform value-added operations to achieve shop KPI’s

    Keep accurate records of time allocated per job

    Drive workflow and report performance to Shop Foreman

    Serve as backup to Shop Foreman, as directed

    Be proactive in solving production problems using a scalable, common-sense approach

    Produce conforming product based on work instructions, engineering, and quality requirements

    Inspect parts for conformance to print and traveler requirements and make recommendations for improvements when needed

    Maintain accurate inventory of manufacturing

    Performing routine checks and basic repairs/adjustments to ensure the machine operates efficiently

    

AUTHORITY 

    Determine product defects or out of tolerance condition, notify quality and/or programming to have product corrected or production stopped if 

     defects exist

    Train apprentices

    Ability to do first part inspect for jobs for others within their area

    Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications per SOP set forth in our BMS

    Confers with lead or supervisor to resolve machining problems and have the ability to communicate concerns with programming or maintenance

    Mentors all employees in the machining profession with the willingness to further their education in technological advances

    Ensures the adherence to company safety and health standards, policies and procedures by monitoring personnel, machinery and work environment
