Position Title: Manufacturing Engineer
Location(s): Frisco, TX (Onsite)
Job Type: Contract (6+ months); 2nd Shift
Core Responsibilities
Support the fabrication and assembly of advanced composite airframe structures for next-generation aircraft. Develop manufacturing processes and design assembly tools, fixtures and jigs required to support prototype and production aircraft manufacturing. Travel and living expenses are not provided, the candidate must be local to the Frisco area or willing to relocate at their own expense.
Activities and Duties
The following activities and duties are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive:
- Design and optimize assembly tools, fixtures and jigs used to support high-precision aircraft structural assembly and integration.
- Develop and document manufacturing work instructions, standard operating procedures and production process flows.
- Support the fabrication, trimming, drilling, fastening and bonding of composite and metallic aircraft components.
- Collaborate with design, quality and production teams to ensure manufacturability and compliance with engineering requirements.
- Use CATIA V5 or Siemens NX CAD software to design and evaluate manufacturing tooling and assembly processes.
- Review engineering drawings, models and specifications to determine manufacturing and tooling requirements.
- Apply Design for Manufacturability and Assembly principles during product and process development.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities related to manufacturing issues, defects and process inefficiencies.
- Assist with prototype builds and the development or improvement of manufacturing processes.
- Communicate with customers and team members regarding project requirements, technical issues and milestone completion.
- Make decisions concerning personal time management and task prioritization to deliver quality service on time and within budget.
Required Experience
- Minimum two years of experience in aircraft manufacturing, structural assembly, manufacturing engineering or tooling design.
- Experience designing assembly tools, fixtures or jigs for aerospace manufacturing applications.
- Experience using CATIA V5 or Siemens NX CAD software for tooling and assembly process design.
- Experience with aircraft structural assembly processes, including drilling, fastening and tolerance stack-up.
- Experience interpreting aerospace engineering drawings, models, specifications and manufacturing requirements.
Education / Training
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related technical field.
- CAD software certification, a plus.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing and aircraft structural assembly processes.
- Experience designing assembly tools, fixtures and jigs for aerospace applications.
- Understanding of composite and metallic component fabrication, including trimming, drilling, fastening and bonding.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, specifications, GD&T and tolerance requirements.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability and Assembly principles.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis and corrective action.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering, quality and production teams.
- Self-starter with the ability to prioritize responsibilities and work with minimal supervision.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- This position requires onsite work at the customer’s facility in Frisco, Texas.
- Work is performed in office and manufacturing environments and may require sitting or standing for extended periods.
- Ability to safely navigate manufacturing and aircraft assembly areas.
- Ability to communicate by telephone and handle calls in a professional and personable manner.
- Vision must be sufficient to read engineering drawings, computer screens, reference materials, reports and other written documents.
- Ability to drive a personal or rental vehicle.
